Blood pressure is very important part of DOT Physical exam. If your blood pressure is higher than 140/90. Your certification can be restricted it or disqualified. FMCSA is very strict on blood pressure because there can be a catastrophic accident if semi-truck driver has stroke or heart attach while driving and lose control of the truck.
Every CMV drivers must recertified CDL every 2 years. If your blood pressure is 140/90 or less than you are certified for 2 years.
If your blood pressure is between 140-159/90-99 you are certified for 1 year.
You are diagnosed as Stage 3 Hypertension (180/110) and blood pressure is under control and blood pressure at the time examination is 140/90 or less. Certification for 6 months interval.
At the time of DOT physical exam, your BP is 160-179/100-109 you will be certified for 3 months. Within 3 months your blood pressure have to be recheck. If your BP is less than 140/90 you will be certified for 1 year. If BP is more than 140/90 at the time of recheck you will be disqualified.
If you are diagnosed with HTN and under the supervision of medical doctor and your BP is under control than you can be certified for 6 months or 1 year. If you are trying to get a CDL for the first time and you have history of high blood pressure. It is important to have your BP under control before you do DOT physical exam.
